Modeling potential air temperature reductions yielded by cool roofs and urban irrigation in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area

چکیده

We evaluate two mitigation strategies for urban heat island (UHI) in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area (KCMA). Using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, we assess potential benefits of reflective "cool" roofs irrigation on air temperature typical summer conditions between 2011 2015, during six strongest historical waves from 2005 to 2016. Under conditions, simulate 2-m 10 weeks, finding average daytime (07:00–19:00 local time) reductions 0.08 0.28 °C cool irrigation, respectively. During heat-wave episodes, find 0.02 0.26 scenarios, similar those under conditions. Our results suggest that can be more efficient than mitigating UHI metropolitan regions where majority land cover is comprised areas with low (i.e., non-vegetated) fractions. Finally, alteration surface due enhanced roof albedos influences precipitation within WRF simulation, particular waves. Further research would necessary determine robustness this last finding.

Air quality modeling in Warsaw Metropolitan Area

Decision support of air quality management needs to connect several categories of the input data with the analytical process of air pollution dispersion. The aim of the respective model of air pollution is to provide a quantitative assessment of environmental impact of emission sources in a form of spatial/temporal maps of pollutants’ concentration or deposition in the domain. These results are...

Modeling Urban Sprawling of Tehran Metropolitan Area Based on PSO

The main goal of the present study was to implement a hybrid pattern of cellular automata model and particle swarm optimization algorithm based on TM and ETM+ imagery of landsat satellite from 1988 to 2010 for simulating the urban sprawling. In this study, an alternative model was implemented in two ways: the first method was based on two images (1988 and 2010) and the second one was based on t...

Effect of Vegetation Cover on Energy Consumption Optimization due to Reduction of Urban Heat Island intensity: Case of Tehran Metropolitan Area

Urbanization through rapid constructions, is the main cause of high heat absorption in urban centers. In addition, the accumulation of heat energy resulted by removal of vegetation cover, has contributed to formation of urban heat islands (UHIs). The spatial distribution of heat intensity in Tehran Metropolitan Area was studied, and the influence of land use and green cover were analyzed in the...

Trends in Food Pantry Use Since Welfare Reform: Evidence from the Kansas City Metropolitan Area

This study uses a unique database to examine the trend in the use of food pantries in the Kansas City metropolitan area from 1997 to 2000. We find a slight increase in the use of food pantry services over this period, less than one percent annually. This is a much smaller increase than has been reported in other studies, but consistent with recent research that uses a series of national cross-s...
